Today we went to Landguard Fort. Originally built at the behest of Henry the Eighth, this fort in Felixstowe is the only fort in England to have repelled a full scale seaborne invasion of England in 1667 and the first land battle of the Royal Marines. The current fort was built in the 18th century, and modified in the 19th century with substantial additional 19th-20th century outside batteries.
More information about Landguard Fort can be found here.
After going to the fort, we had a rest and then spent the evening with Peter and Mary Howe at their bungalow in Old Felixstowe. We had a lovely evening and Mary cooked a fantastic Lasagne (Alan had chicken though as he doesn’t like cheese).
Here are some of the photos that Laura took, although the first one is a 360 degree view of the inside of the fort taken on my phone using PhotoAF application.
Looks an interesting place to have gone to.
