Last day of the holiday today and we’d saved going to Weymouth until today because the weather was supposed to be the nicest day. Well it was nicer today than all of the other days, and actually it looked promising. It was a little tricky finding a decent car park, we tried finding the “Shop Mobility” and failed but found a good parking spot nether the less. We had a good look around and found a cafe at the back of a Dogs charity shop and had lunch. We also found a novel use for an old red telephone box, as a cash machine.
Laura found a nice bag shop with a nice bag that just had to come home. There was also a couple of nice wallets so Adam and I had to have one each.
We finished in the town and decided to find the beach, we went back to the car to try and find out where to go. Laura found a place called Lulworth Cove which promised fossil beaches and looked really good. We put the Postcode in the Sat Nav and off we went.
We had said that when we went to Weymouth, we would try and find the “White Horse” in Osmington, and as luck would have it, we drove past the viewing point on the way to Lulworth Cove and stopped to take a few photos.
We found Lulworth Cove eventually, and parked up in a quaint little village which has made the most of being a tourist hot spot. There are loads of walks up very steep hills, clambering across rock faces, and the route we took was straight to the cove. Below is a panorama I took
We scavenged for fossils and walked along the beach. The cliffs are clay and chalk and show history well with the layers of the ground easily seen where 1000’s of years ago the earth shifted to create the cliffs. We took loads of photos and below is a selection. Laura managed to get her feet wet at one point and not on purpose. There were loads of dogs running around and swimming, one particular dog kept chasing a seagull even into the sea.
We walked back to the village and all had a nice ice cream before making our way back to the cottage to pack 🙁 But we had noticed a novel use for a cello as a wine rack.
