Ok, so we’re not in a Zombie apocalypse, or on the set of Sean of the Dead, but we did go to Winchester. The plan was to have a look round the city, have a nice lunch somewhere, and generally mooch about.
Waze took us to the wrong car park to start with, but we managed to find the same part of the city we found on Saturday when Adam had his hair cut, except this time, we managed to get a disabled parking space. We had a wander, popped in to M&S, Super Drug – You know, all the shops we don’t have at home…
We settled on a restaurant called The Ivy, for lunch https://ivycollection.com – the menu look reasonable, if a little expensive. Yet again we hadn’t booked, but they squeezed us in. It was Midday and they needed the table by 1.30pm. We had a lovely table by the window with nice comfy seats. I had the burger and chunky chips, Laura had Shepherds Pie, and Adam had Fish & Chips. Turns out it was a little posh… so we didn’t feel right to take photos of the food, but the food was great. The dessert menu came round and the Stick Toffee Pudding was calling to both Adam and I. Laura ordered the Espresso Creme Brûlée. I typically order Creme Brûlée but I don’t really like coffee flavoured desserts.
Dessert was taking a little time to come, and I noticed a waiter bringing a tray from the kitchen with glass domes on them, with smoke in the dome – that’s how posh it was. Well it turns out that was mine and Adam’s desserts… the puddings were put on the table and the glass domes were removed…. oh wow then smell was amazing and so was the Sticky Toffee Pudding…. We paid the bill, without wincing, and headed back to the car – via secondhand book shops (yes Laura and Adam bought a few second hand books)
We got back to the lodge and got in the hot hub for a lovely soak. Then we all had a rest before dinner (Mac n Cheese if you’re interested).
Ok we didn’t take pictures of our main course at The Ivy, but just had to take pictures of pudding…
